When a forest fire is starting, it’s vitally important for firefighting crews to know exactly what it is that they’re up against, so they can prepare most effectively. A new Spanish project is helping to make that happen, utilizing an autonomous intel-gathering drone.
Two drones have been designed for Brecon Mountain Rescue Team, to be operated by seven licensed pilots. Its first three pilots are already in place and the waterproof drones are available for call-outs.
The Los Angeles Fire Department has deployed 1,000 hand-held thermal imaging cameras that can help firefighters locate victims in smoke-filled rooms or find fire hidden inside walls, attics and crawl spaces.
